A little history about us...

Bent's Fort Water Company (BWFC) was formed in the 1960s as a private water company, a non-profit which provides domestic water to nearly 375 customers.

In 2024, BFWC began the process of converting to a water authority, a local government entity.  In 2025, Bent's Fort Water Authority was born.  The reason was to be eligible to obtain funding sources to improve our system.  At this time, Bent's Fort Water Company continues in operation and owns the water rights which it leases to the Bent's Fort Water Authority.  All other assets are owned and operated by Bent's Fort Water Authority.

Bent's Fort Water Authority supplies water to our customers purchased from the city of La Junta, treated by reverse osmosis, greensand filtration and chlorination.

Our water system follows the guidelines of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.  The water system identification number is CO 0145060.
